21-year-old Emma Field died in a house fire in 2022. Leigh Beer, 31, is on trial for arson, murder, and assault with intent to injure in relation to the fire. The Crown alleges that Beer, fueled by alcohol and drugs, set Field's bed on fire while she was sleeping. Beer's lawyer claims there's no evidence linking him to the crime and suggests a former Mongrel Mob member is responsible. The trial is ongoing in the High Court at New Plymouth.
