34-year-old DOC inmate Shawn Simien escaped from a work-release van near Plank and Hooper roads in East Baton Rouge Parish, triggering a search on ground and from the air. Simien, serving time for first-degree robbery, had only a year left of his sentence. Law enforcement agencies, including deputies and dogs, are searching for the escapee while a helicopter hovers overhead.
