South African Constitutional Court upholds Zimbabwean Exemption Permit (ZEP) validity for 178,000 Zimbabweans until Nov 2025.
The South African Constitutional Court has dismissed Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi's appeal to terminate the Zimbabwean Exemption Permit (ZEP) regime, upholding the rights of 178,000 Zimbabweans who hold ZEPs. The court ruled that Motsoaledi's appeal had no reasonable prospects of success, which means existing ZEPs will remain valid until November 2025. The decision was based on the High Court's finding that the government's termination of the ZEP program was unlawful without proper consultation.
