Mitsubishi Shipbuilding receives orders to build Japan's first methanol-fueled RORO cargo ships for Toyofuji Shipping and Fukuju Shipping.

Mitsubishi Shipbuilding, part of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Group, has received orders from Toyofuji Shipping and Fukuju Shipping to build Japan's first methanol-fueled roll-on/roll-off (RORO) cargo ships. The two ships will be built at MHI's Shimonoseki Shipyard & Machinery Works in Yamaguchi Prefecture, with completion and delivery scheduled by the end of fiscal 2027. Featuring a dual-fuel engine capable of using methanol and heavy fuel oil, the vessels will reduce CO2 emissions by more than 10% compared to ships with the same hull and powered by heavy fuel oil.
