Kano State House of Assembly appeals to Court of Appeal to halt Emirate Council (Repeal) Law 2024 lawsuit proceedings due to conflicting rulings.
Kano State House of Assembly has appealed to the Court of Appeal to halt further proceedings on a lawsuit filed by Sarkin Dawaki Babba, Aminu Danagundi, who is challenging the legal standing of Kano's Emirate Council (Repeal) Law 2024. The lawmakers also requested the appellate court sitting in Kano to take charge of the entire proceedings due to conflicting rulings from the Kano State High Court and Federal High Court. Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has criticized the decisions of both courts, stating they lack jurisdiction to handle chieftaincy matters and cannot be justified under Sections 251 and 254(C) of the Nigerian constitution.
