Houston Independent School District (HISD) Superintendent Mike Miles told city council members if academic performance continues to improve, the district could regain control from the Texas Education Agency within two years. Miles discussed improved test scores and engaged teachers in his New Education System schools, and stated that if conditions like no multiple years of poor grades, special education compliance, and an improved governance system are met, the district could return to an elected school board.
