Health Minister Mark Holland plans to launch a national pharmacare program in Canada by April 1, 2025, providing universal access to birth control and diabetes medication through a single-payer system. The program, budgeted $1.5 billion over five years, is supported by the Liberals and NDP. Once receiving royal assent, Holland will negotiate deals with provinces and territories for program administration. He is already discussing potential deals with his provincial and territorial counterparts. The drafted pharmacare bill is currently being reviewed through the House of Commons and the Senate.
