13 dogs and 2 birds were found dead in an Iowa City home after a fire self-extinguished, causing high levels of carbon monoxide. Firefighters discovered the high carbon monoxide levels after being called to the home for a reported issue by MidAmerican Energy. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. One dog was rescued and provided with life-saving care by firefighters and the Johnson County Ambulance Service.
