UK has trailed G-7 investment in 24 of the last 30 years, with a £1.9tn ($2.4tn) gap, according to the IPPR. The UK's poor productivity and living standards are attributed to this investment gap. Business investment by private firms was lower in the UK than any other G-7 country in 2022, the third consecutive year at the bottom of the G-7 league. The IPPR's analysis found that the UK ranked 28th for business investment as a percentage of GDP, compared to the G-7 average. The think tank called for Labour and the Conservatives to reverse planned cuts to investment or risk long-term damage to economic growth.
