Northern Ireland Justice Minister Naomi Long considers raising minimum age of criminal responsibility from 10 to 14, supported by public consultation.
Northern Ireland's Justice Minister, Naomi Long, is considering raising the minimum age of criminal responsibility from 10 to potentially 14 years old, following a 2022 public consultation that showed "overwhelming support" for the change. The move would bring Northern Ireland in line with Scotland, where the age is already 12, and different from England and Wales's, which is also 10. Any changes would require new legislation and approval from other members of the Executive.
