Mass General Brigham researchers found increased Alzheimer's risk in maternal inheritance, linked to higher amyloid levels in cognitively unimpaired adults.
Mass General Brigham researchers found that maternal inheritance of Alzheimer's disease may increase the risk of developing the disease. Analyzing 4,400 cognitively unimpaired adults aged 65-85, the team discovered higher amyloid levels in those whose mothers had symptoms of Alzheimer's. This study suggests that a person's maternal versus paternal family history could impact the risk of accumulating amyloid in the brain, a biomarker of Alzheimer's.
