The government considers easing granny flat construction on existing properties for potential income benefits.
The government is considering making it easier to build granny flats (minor dwellings) on properties that already have an existing home. These small, self-contained, and detached houses could provide a stream of income, but are unlikely to boost property value. A 60 sq m granny flat could cost $200,000-$300,000 to build and rent for $400-$600 a week, but won't necessarily improve the property's value.
