28-year-old Cody Allen Word from Morganton, NC died in a motorcycle crash on Playmore Beach Road near Highway 64 in Caldwell County on Sunday night. Word veered off the road, hit a tree and a fence, and was thrown from his 2003 BMW motorcycle. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol reported that neither speed nor impairment were factors in the accident. The road was closed during the investigation.
