Nigerian lawmaker Kanmi Ajibola, representing Oriade constituency, has appealed a lower court's ruling that barred him from providing free legal services to poor individuals facing criminal charges. Ajibola argues that his ongoing service as a lawyer is a public interest duty and that his NGO, Prisoners Aid Initiative, has helped secure the freedom of numerous innocent Nigerians charged unfairly. The organization was registered in 2008 and has contributed to prison decongestion efforts.
