Demand for social housing in the Hunter region continues to rise, with new figures showing an increase in people seeking priority social housing, as the Community Housing Industry Association NSW reports over 58,000 families and individuals waiting for housing. The priority housing list is for individuals at imminent risk of homelessness; CHIA NSW CEO Mark Degotardi has called for urgent funding in the state budget to address the social housing crisis, stating that there are not enough homes available in Newcastle and Hunter regions.
