British Columbia opens its first French-speaking health center in Vancouver this fall to serve the growing French-speaking population.
British Columbia will open its first health center dedicated to serving its French-speaking community this fall in Vancouver. The new center will serve the growing population of French speakers in the Lower Mainland and is expected to house a care team of family doctors, nurses, and social workers. Over 328,000 people, or 6.6% of the population, speak French, with over 80,000 residents naming French as their mother tongue, and over half of them living in the Lower Mainland. The provincial government aims to connect 4,400 people to primary care by 2029.
