35-year-old Indigenous woman Kahlie Lockyer, from Port Hedland, is studying medicine at the University of Western Australia to address Indigenous health disparities. Her mother, a nurse, inspired her to help close the gap in Indigenous health by teaching first aid and health courses in remote communities. Lockyer's motivation to enter the medical field was sparked when her second son was born with congenital complications, leading her to face racism and a lack of understanding in the healthcare system.
