A man, Hernan Padilla, was arrested in Carlsbad after allegedly stabbing a bystander at a Home Depot in Encinitas during an attempted theft. The victim, whose condition is unknown, was taken to the hospital with a leg wound that required a tourniquet. Padilla was later found in Carlsbad and treated for his injuries before being booked into the Vista Detention Facility. The motive for the stabbing remains unclear.
