7ft shark, possibly a hammerhead, spotted at Melenara Beach on Gran Canaria, causing locals, tourists to panic, beach closed for swimming as lifeguards and police clear the sea. Hammerhead sharks are aggressive hunters, but generally harmless to humans. Shark sightings rare in Canary Islands, last reported on Menorcan beach last month. Beach remains closed pending further investigation.
