Canmore, Alberta plans to use $192,000 for large-scale fireguards to protect from future wildfires.

Canmore, an Alberta resort town, is planning large-scale fireguards to protect its area and neighboring communities from future wildfires. The Bow Valley's wildfire threat is extreme due to growing development and aging forests. The town received $192,000 through the $19m provincial community fireguard program for high-risk areas, administered by the Forest Resource Improvement Association. A FireSmart forum will be held on June 16 to discuss these initiatives.
