Calgary, Canada's energy hub, declared a state of emergency after discovering that repairs on a major broken water main will take longer than expected, now estimated at three to five weeks. The city first enacted a Municipal Emergency Plan on June 5, and since then, water restrictions have been in place. Mayor Jyoti Gondek stated that the emergency declaration was made to ensure swift and safe restoration of the water feeder main.
