37-year-old José Abreu, a former AL MVP, was released by the Houston Astros mid-contract.

The Houston Astros have released former AL MVP José Abreu, cutting ties with the 37-year-old less than halfway through his three-year, $58.5 million contract. Abreu's struggles with the Astros saw him batting .124 with only two homers and seven RBIs this season, while spending time in the minors attempting to fix his swing. The Astros are still on the hook for $30.8 million from the deal Abreu signed before last season.
