Study in Nature Cities finds adding nitrogen to concrete could reduce global NOx emissions by 6-13% by 2050.
A study in Nature Cities reveals that adding nitrogen to concrete could decrease global nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions, a toxic pollutant linked to air pollution-related deaths, by 3.4-6.9 Mt in 2021, equivalent to 6-13% of industry-related emissions. By 2050, this process could reduce NOx emissions by 131-384 Mt. Commercializing nitrogenation in concrete could offer better economic and environmental prospects than similar CO2 processes.
