New York Governor Kathy Hochul incorrectly stated that the Buffalo supermarket shooter, who killed 10 people in a racially motivated attack in 2022, had used a bump stock. Hochul later clarified that the content aimed to generally address dangerous, illegal weapon modifications with no civilian purpose. The shooter had modified a legally purchased semiautomatic rifle to use high-capacity ammunition magazines, but did not use a bump stock to increase the firing rate.
