30-year-old Gregory Gerami's $237 million donation to Florida A&M University (FAMU) is on hold due to questions about his background and company legitimacy.
Florida A&M University (FAMU) celebrated a $237 million donation from 30-year-old Gregory Gerami, claiming to be Texas' "youngest African American industrial hemp producer." However, the donation, which would have been the largest-ever private gift to a historically Black college or university (HBCU), is now on hold as questions arise about Gerami's background, the legitimacy of his company, Batterson Farms Corp, and the feasibility of the donation. FAMU officials have shared little about their knowledge of Gerami or their vetting process, leaving some to question the university's due diligence in accepting the donation.
