15-year and 9-year sentences in Munster abuse case deemed too lenient; State appeals for life imprisonment.

The State has argued that the 15-year and 9-year sentences imposed on three family members convicted in the Munster abuse case were too lenient. The trial judge described the case as "sheer horror," involving the rape and sexual exploitation of young children. Counsel for the State, Bernard Condon SC, believes life imprisonment could be considered for such a severe case and brought the appeals before the Court of Appeal on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
