Ontario's new Energy Minister, Stephen Lecce, supports the province's use of natural gas for energy needs, calling opposition to it "ideological". The province is set to build the energy infrastructure needed to meet the demands of its economy, including electric vehicle battery plants by Volkswagen, Stellantis, and Honda. The first phase of building a small nuclear reactor east of Toronto has been completed, with Ontario Power Generation constructing four small modular reactors at its Darlington site in Clarington, set to produce 1,200 megawatts of electricity.
