NASA's Perseverance Mars rover crossed an ancient river channel, Neretva Vallis, on June 9, reaching a scientific area called "Bright Angel." The detour through the river bed shortened the drive time by several weeks and revealed geologic features in the river channel. Perseverance is now investigating the "Margin Unit," an area along the crater rim, for evidence of carbonate and olivine deposits.
