2 infants were placed under Iowa Department of Health and Human Services custody in May under the Safe Haven Law. Since its inception 20+ years ago, the law has saved 70 babies, allowing parents in crisis to legally relinquish infants up to 90 days old at designated locations like hospitals and fire stations, with state placement in foster care until permanent adoption. This year, the law has seen 10 infants surrendered.
