Hudson Bay polar bear population may decline due to prolonged ice-free periods caused by global warming.

A study in Communications Earth & Environment suggests that prolonged, ice-free periods in Hudson Bay due to global warming may result in a reduction of the local polar bear population. The extended ice-free duration reduces the polar bears' hunting season, and under a temperature rise of over 2.1 degrees Celsius, the authors propose that the decreased hunting time could lead to a substantial impact on the Hudson Bay polar bear population.
