Former U.S. Customs officer Leonard Darnell George has been convicted for accepting bribes to allow drug-filled vehicles from Mexico into the United States through a San Diego border crossing. Working for two criminal organizations between late 2021 and June 2022, George allowed at least 19 crossings containing several hundred pounds of methamphetamine, along with smaller amounts of cocaine, fentanyl, and heroin, and people being smuggled into the country illegally. George received at least $13,000 per vehicle, with a total of $68,000 from drug traffickers in June 2022. He was convicted on charges of bribery, conspiracy to import controlled substances, and allowing vehicles with unauthorized individuals to enter the country.
