1 in 4 first-time Irish homebuyers are now purchasing properties outside their home counties, with over 40% of first-time buyer mortgages in Kildare, Wicklow, and Meath in 2023 issued to Dublin residents. This trend is driven by increasing house prices and a shortage of new homes in Dublin, as well as the rise in remote and hybrid work allowing people to move to more rural areas. In Leinster, over half of first-time buyers are crossing county lines.
