Emirates fined $1.8M by US Transportation Department for repeatedly flying too low over Iraq, breaking US restrictions.
The US Transportation Department fined Emirates $1.8M for operating flights at too low an altitude over Iraq, violating US restrictions. This fine covers a significant number of flights between December 2021 and August 2022, which were part of a code-sharing agreement with JetBlue Airways. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has prohibited US airlines from flying below 32,000 feet over Iraq for safety reasons. Emirates had faced a similar fine of $400,000 in 2020. Under a consent order, $300,000 of the fine will be dropped if Emirates complies with US restrictions for a year.
