Afghanistan advanced to the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup after defeating Papua New Guinea by seven wickets. Afghanistan's Fazalhaq Farooqi took three more wickets, leading PNG to be bowled out for 95 runs. In response, Afghanistan reached the target for the loss of three wickets, with Gulbadin Naib scoring an unbeaten 49 runs. This win also eliminated New Zealand from the T20 World Cup.
