87-year-old U.S. District Judge Harry Leinenweber, who presided over singer R. Kelly's trial on child sex abuse charges, has passed away after battling lung cancer. Leinenweber, appointed by President Ronald Reagan in 1985, had served as a judge in the Northern District of Illinois for almost 40 years. He is remembered by colleagues and Chief Judge Rebecca R. Pallmeyer as a friend, mentor, and model jurist.
