Transgender swimmer Lia Thomas's challenge against World Aquatics' transgender policy was denied.
Transgender swimmer Lia Thomas failed in her challenge against rules that prevent her from competing in elite women's races. The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled that Thomas lacked standing to challenge the policy and operational requirements of World Aquatics, which banned transgender women who have gone through male puberty from competing in women's races and created an "open" category for transgender athletes. Thomas, who won an NCAA title in meets outside the World Aquatics competitive system, had asked the sports court in Switzerland to overturn the rules, arguing they were invalid, unlawful, and discriminatory.
