Japan Post raises postage rates for first time in 30 years on Oct. 1, due to declining mail volumes and rising costs.

Japan Post announces its first postage rate hike in nearly 30 years, set to take effect on Oct. 1. Standard letters (25g or less) will rise from ¥84 to ¥110, while postcard prices will increase from ¥63 to ¥85. This follows declining postal mail volumes due to digital communication and rising transportation costs, leading to Japan Post's first post-privatization deficit in fiscal year 2022.
