Australian man, Troy Andrew Smith, faces up to 12 years in prison if convicted of possessing methamphetamine under Indonesia's strict drug laws. Smith's trial began in Bali's District Court following his arrest on April 30 after police discovered 3.15g of crystal methamphetamine in his hotel room. Initially charged with drug trafficking, which could have resulted in the death penalty, the charge was reduced to drug use after a police drug assessment team's determination.
