4.5-times higher risk of death for individuals with anorexia nervosa, increased to 1.9-fold with psychiatric conditions.
A new study published in the International Journal of Eating Disorders suggests that individuals with anorexia nervosa face a 4.5-times higher risk of death compared to the general population. Furthermore, the presence of psychiatric conditions in these patients increases their mortality risk by 1.9-fold. The research analyzed data from 14,774 anorexia patients, followed for a median time of 9.1 years, revealing that those with anorexia nervosa had a significantly higher risk of early death when coupled with psychiatric conditions.
