Former Christian Brother John Merrick, 77, has been jailed for a year after pleading guilty to indecently assaulting two pupils at a Dublin school in 1977-78. Both victims, now 58, wish to remain anonymous but agreed to Merrick's name being used in the reporting of the case. Merrick, who joined the Christian Brothers at 14, left the order in 1981 after meeting his wife. He has previous convictions from the District Court for similar offenses around the same time.
