20% of first-time homebuyers in the UK now have dependants, doubling from 10% in 2009, according to Santander's customer data. The average age of first-time buyers has also increased from 32 in 2004 to 36 in 2022. Santander's Head of Business Development, Mortgages, Graham Sellar, notes that families with children face challenges in finding suitable properties while balancing the costs of childcare and raising children.
