Sri Lanka's cabinet approves FTA talks with Malaysia to boost trade and economic recovery.

Sri Lanka's cabinet has approved a proposal to begin talks on a free trade agreement (FTA) with Malaysia, in a bid to strengthen trade ties and aid economic recovery from a financial crisis. Malaysia is the 34th export destination for Sri Lanka, and the cabinet has emphasized the importance of export-oriented foreign direct investments, diversification of exports, and expanding market access for goods and services. The total value of exports to Malaysia in 2023 was $58.3 million.
