Ørsted invests in a 600MWh Tesla battery storage system for its 2.9GW Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm in Norfolk, UK, to store excess energy and balance the grid.

Ørsted has finalized its investment in a 600MWh battery energy storage system, to be supplied by Tesla, co-located with its 2.9GW Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm in Swardeston, Norfolk, UK. The system, which has a 300MW power rating, will store excess electricity generated during times of high wind and sun, enabling it to be discharged later to help balance the grid and reduce price volatility for consumers. This battery storage system will be one of Europe's largest, operational by the end of 2026, and part of Ørsted's growing portfolio of storage solutions co-located with onshore and offshore renewable assets.
