Mexico's critically endangered vaquita marina porpoises sighted in the Gulf of California have fallen to between 6 and 8 this year, according to researchers. The only place in the world these porpoises live, concerns have risen that they may have moved elsewhere in the Gulf. Last year, experts estimated 10 to 13 of the porpoises were sighted during a similar expedition, though no newborn calves were seen this year.
