Mobile is close to receiving Amtrak services with a $3M budget approval over three years and additional funding required for operations. Mayor Sandy Stimpson announced that the port authority could cover one-third of the funding, and Gov. Kay Ivey's budgeting office has verbally agreed to help. The city, state, and port authority may share the $3M subsidy for Amtrak's Gulf Coast service.
