7.1 million animal deaths due to dzud extreme weather in Mongolia, impacting herders' livelihoods and the economy.

An extreme weather phenomenon known as dzud, characterized by heavy snow and drought, has killed over 7.1 million animals in Mongolia this year, threatening herders' livelihoods and the country's economy. Dzuds, which are becoming more frequent and severe due to climate change, result in many deaths among malnourished female animals and their young during spring, the birthing season. The dzud has devastated Mongolia's livestock, contributing to 80% of the country's agricultural production and 11% of its GDP.
