India's government has announced the appointment of Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi as the next Chief of Army Staff. Dwivedi, currently serving as the Vice Chief of Army Staff, will take office on June 30, succeeding General Manoj Pande. Born in 1964, Dwivedi has served in the Indian Army for nearly 40 years and has held various command, staff, instructional, and foreign appointments. He will take on the role of Chief of Army Staff following the seniority principle, as stated by the defence ministry.
