Indian Institute of Science researchers develop a sustainable, three-step process for removing heavy metal contaminants like arsenic from groundwater.
Indian Institute of Science (IISc) researchers have created a sustainable, three-step process to remove heavy metal contaminants like arsenic from groundwater, addressing a gap in existing technologies that often overlook safe disposal of removed heavy metals. The method, involving adsorption onto an organic material, is patent-pending and can generate safe drinking water according to WHO standards. It has been tested in rural areas of Bihar and Karnataka. This cost-effective, environmentally-friendly solution could potentially scale up to address arsenic contamination across India.
