3 Indian-discovered Mars craters, including Devendra Lal's, were named by IAU in June 2021, hinting at Mars' wet history.
3 Mars craters, including one named after Indian physicist Devendra Lal, were discovered by scientists from India's Physical Research Laboratory in 2021. The other two are named after towns Mursan and Hilsa in northern India. The International Astronomical Union approved the naming on June 5. Located in the Tharsis volcanic region, the craters' discovery suggests Mars was once wet and water has flowed on its surface.
