A High Court appeal by Mark Vincent Dayney, who claimed he acted in self-defence when he killed his girlfriend's ex-lover, has been denied. Dayney was convicted of murder in December 2021, and had argued that a section of Queensland's criminal code should have allowed him to be acquitted of murder. The High Court dismissed his appeal, with the Chief Justice stating that Dayney had initiated the confrontation with the victim.
